For me, it's the years of tradition, experience and obsession with quality ingredients, that I see going into making a London dry gin that is second to none. We produce and bottle our gin at a wonderful distillery in the home counties just west of London. Plus, we just won the Silver IWSC award! Yippee! Whereabouts in Britain is Gin made? How important is it for you that your Gin is manufactured here in Britain? Most gins you get off the shelf in your supermarket have been diluted many, many times over with ethanol - that’s why you get that “hit” at the back of your throat. Prototype is a one-shot gin, which means that it’s distilled in one go and then it’s bottled. Can you talk us through what happens on your end? The production of your Gin and how it’s made? An alcohol business is a little more complex than starting other e-commerce businesses, because it’s a controlled item, but the challenges make it even more rewarding. I had started a wine company just before the pandemic and although I wasn’t able to continue, I never forgot my dream that I wanted to run my own business. What do you think inspired you to start Gin? But, Prototype’s story started a long time before that, because without the ten year’s experience I have had working in start-ups, we wouldn’t be where we are today. In January I was walking along the High Line in New York with the man who would become my husband and it just came to us. Prototype was born way back in the winter of 2021. We just won the Silver award at the International Spirits and Wine Competition and we could not be more thrilled. It’s a sipping gin, so it’s designed to be drunk straight with ice or in an unsweetened cocktail like a martini. Prototype gin is a truly unique product - it’s a London dry gin inspired by the city of New York.
